Recently, GDD Steel successfully completed an overseas order of 650 tons of cold-rolled steel coils. From online inquiry to sample confirmation, and then to batch production and shipment, the entire process was marked by efficient coordination, demonstrating the company’s professional expertise and delivery capabilities in international steel trade. The batch has passed rigorous quality inspections and is being loaded onto large flatbed trucks, ready for shipment to the Southeast Asian market, where it will be used in the local manufacturing of home appliances and automotive components.
The order originated from an online inquiry on Alibaba International Station. After browsing GDD’s product page, the customer showed strong interest in DC06 deep-drawn cold-rolled steel coils and initiated a consultation via Alibaba Wangwang. The company’s foreign trade team responded immediately, providing detailed technical specifications, material certificates, and sampling policies. The customer requested sample confirmation of surface finish and formability. GDD quickly arranged a small trial production, sending out samples within 48 hours along with third-party test certificates. The customer was satisfied with the test results, and both parties signed the contract and completed payment via letter of credit on the Alibaba platform, ensuring a fully digitalized, efficient, and transparent process.
Quality inspection was a critical step. Inspectors used high-precision thickness gauges to scan each coil point by point, ensuring thickness tolerance was controlled within ±0.02mm, while visually checking for scratches, oxidation spots, or roll marks. Each coil was labeled with a unique QR code, which could be scanned to access complete data such as production batch, chemical composition, and mechanical properties, enabling full traceability. The total batch of 650 tons comprised 130 coils, each weighing about 5 tons, all of which passed the customer’s stringent stamping test standards.
For the loading and shipment phase, GDD’s logistics team planned the transport in advance. The steel coils were loaded horizontally onto yellow flatbed trailers, fixed with wooden wedges between coils, wrapped with black anti-collision tape on the outer layer, and tightly secured with high-strength chains in a cross pattern to prevent rolling or shifting during transit. Before loading, warehouse staff applied moisture-proof treatment to the outer packaging, covering the coils with waterproof film and adding edge protectors. The entire shipment departed from the factory at 6:00 a.m., traveling by road to Ningbo Port, with an estimated arrival in Ho Chi Minh City within 15 days. The customer has arranged for a local customs clearance agent to receive the goods, and will later upload the bill of lading and arrival photos via the Alibaba platform to complete the closed-loop service.
This cooperation not only strengthened GDD’s long-term relationship with the Southeast Asian customer but also validated the feasibility of the “online communication + offline delivery” model. The company’s foreign trade director stated, “Alibaba International Station has opened up the global market for us, but what truly retains customers is our excellent product quality and stable delivery capability. From sample making to shipment, we always adhere to a ‘one order, one plan’ approach, ensuring seamless coordination at every stage.” In the future, GDD will continue to deepen its presence in high-end sheet metal sectors such as cold-rolled, galvanized, and color-coated products, expand into European, American, and Middle Eastern markets, while increasing digital investment and optimizing Alibaba store operations to improve customer inquiry conversion rates.
Notably, the raw materials for these steel coils came from high-quality cold-rolled substrates supplied by Angang and Baosteel. Through strategic cooperation, GDD has ensured a stable supply chain. The company’s technical department revealed that in response to overseas customers’ concerns about environmental protection and carbon footprint, GDD is advancing green factory certification and will offer low-carbon steel products in the future to meet international market demands for sustainable development.
From Alibaba inquiry to overseas shipment, GDD Steel has once again proven the global competitiveness of Chinese steel trading enterprises with its professional, efficient, and reliable service. The 650 tons of steel coils carry not only the product itself but also customer trust and brand commitment. As global manufacturing recovers, GDD will continue to build on quality and customer focus, writing more stories of “Intelligent Manufacturing in China” on the international stage.
